Coorg Attractions: Places to Visit

Talakaveri is the place considered to be the source of the Kaveri River. It is located in the Brahmagiri hill near Bhagamandala in Kodagu district, Karnataka, 1,276 m. above sea level. However, there is not a permanent visible flow from this place to the main river course except during the rainy season. It is about 8 km away from Bhagamandala and 48 km from Madikeri.


3kms from Kushalnagar and 30 kms from Madikeri. In Kaveri Nisargadhama River Kaveri splits forming a beautiful island measuring 65 acres. Here you can find hanging bridge into the island, boating, tree top shelters and elephant riding and many more tourists attractions. You can also spot animals like deer, elephants, and peacocks


Iruppu Falls

It is a fresh water cascade and is situated at a distance of 48 km from Virajpet on the highway to Nagarhole. The Falls are also known as the Lakshmana Tirtha Falls, derived from the name of the tributary of Cauvery which starts from these falls, the Lakshmana Tirtha River.

Abbey Falls

Located at a distance of 9km from the town of Madikeri, the Abbey falls produces a spectacular sight of cascading water. The falls appear suddenly, the water cascading over rocks into calm pools.During the monsoon season the water flow is very high. During the dry seasons the flow is considerably diminished.


Mainly an elephant-capturing and training camp of the Forest Department at the edge of Dubare forest; on the bank of the river Kaveri along the Kushalanagara - Siddapur road.



Nagarhole National Park proves to be a great excursion from Coorg. Situated at a distance of 94 kilometers from Coorg.




Bhagamandala is a pilgrimage place, situated at the confluence of two rivers, the Kaveri and the Kanika. A third river, the Sujyothi, is said to join from underground. The temples in this area are built in Kerala style which is also similar to the temples in Nepal.



Harangi dam

A dam with a length of 2775 ft and a height of 174 ft is built across the tributary of Cauvery. This reservoir, 8 kms from Nisarga dhama on one side and 6 kms from Kushalnagar on the other, is the only reservior in Kodagu. A true picinic spot where one can admire the gushing back waters and a cauvery temple nearby. A visit to the Kudige Dairy farm close by could be interesting.



Raja's Seat

Raja's Seat, close to Coorg's main town of Madikeri, is a popular Coorg tourist attraction. This garden spot was apparently a favorite of the Kings of Kodagu. If you want peace and quiet there, it's best to go in the morning.



Omkareshwar Temple

The temple is an attractive fusion of Indo-Sarcenic and Konkan Coast style of architecture, and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The walls of temple are decorated with intriguing paintings, including Sai Baba and Raghvendra Swamy. A huge tank situated opposite the temple is populated largely by fishes; devotees are allowed to feed them.



Chelavara Falls

A quaint little place, Chelavara Falls is majestic place worth seeing. Choc-a-bloc with natural beauty, the fall is located 16 km from Virajpet. The roars can be heard from a distance and the water gets dissected in two different streams. Two km from here is place is “Choma Kunda” Hills, famed for its mesmerising beauty and sunset station.
